Designing Libraries That Students Love To Return To
We partner with Founding Heads (K-12) of International Schools to Design and Setup World Class Libraries from the ground up. We also transform traditional spaces into active learning environments.
Expertise & Experience
15+years of experience in settingup, invigorating and designing School Libraries
4 countries (India, Malaysia, China, Bahrain)
4 Curricula (IB, British, American, Indian)
IB Authorization & CIS Accreditation
A school library needs two kinds of expertise to come together: a design team that can create a beautiful, space, and a librarian who makes it functional and understands how students actually use a library — for research, for curriculum, for the quiet hour between classes. Founding teams rarely have both at the table at the same stage.
The result, more often than not, is a library that gets furnished rather than designed — pieced together across a design team, a furniture vendor, a shelving supplier and a software provider, each handling one part of the puzzle with no one owning how it all comes together.
Library Design exists to close that gap. We bring the pedagogical expertise of a career librarian and an eye for the aesthetics students respond to into a single point of accountability — so a school library isn't stitched together after the fact, but designed with intention, from day one.

Variety of Space Designs To Meet Students Learning Needs
It depends on many factors, including how soon we can get started. However a library can be ready for an accreditation visit within 8 to 12 months.
We scope and quote transparently across three tiers so you know exactly what your budget delivers and what to ask the board for.
Most architects and vendors don't know either. We do- and we build every library with the evaluator's checklist in mind from day one.
We've delivered 4 libraries across 4 countries — most of the work is remote by design. Distance is built into how we work, not an obstacle.
We design spaces that become the visual centrepiece of your campus — a statement of educational intent.
Every space we design is curriculum-mapped, with zones for research, collaboration, creation, and quiet reading — all purposeful, all pedagogically grounded.
Usage data from our projects shows a consistent 3x increase in voluntary student visits within the first term.

"I personally hired Rashmi to be a part of my senior administrative team, with some very high-profile, specific objectives: to design our two international libraries from a bare but completed USD 800 million school building. Rashmi took the task to heart and produced the most beautiful student-focused libraries, serving our international school community."
BUDGET QUESTIONS
There is no single answer — and anyone who gives you a number without understanding your space, curriculum, and collection goals is guessing. The total investment depends on your floor area, the number of students, the technology you want to integrate, and whether you're starting with an empty room or an existing collection.
What we can tell you: our projects range from focused advisory engagements for schools that just need expert direction, all the way to full end-to-end design, procurement, and setup. We work across a wide range of school sizes and budgets. The best first step is a free 30-minute discovery call — after that, we can give you a realistic scoping estimate at no charge.
Absolutely — and this is often the smartest approach for a founding school. We design a phased roadmap that gets your library accreditation-ready and functional in Year 1, then builds out makerspaces, advanced technology zones, and expanded collections in Years 2 and 3 as your school grows and budgets increase.
The advantage: you don't over-spend upfront on a half-empty school, and you're not scrambling to fix poor early decisions later. Phased planning is something we build into every project brief from day one.
Our professional fee covers consultancy, design, project management, and implementation oversight. We are transparent about this upfront — our quote separates our fee from third-party costs such as furniture, books, databases, and technology, so you know exactly what is consultancy and what is procurement.
Separately budgeted items typically include: furniture and shelving, physical book collection, digital resource subscriptions (e-books, databases), technology hardware, and library management software licensing. We help you get competitive quotes for all of these and manage vendor relationships on your behalf.
TIMELINE QUESTIONS
A full new-campus library setup — from initial brief to opening day — typically takes 6 to 12 months depending on scope, procurement lead times, and construction dependencies. A focused advisory and planning engagement can be completed in 8 to 12 weeks.
The most common mistake founding schools make is engaging a library consultant too late — often 3–4 months before opening. This creates rushed procurement decisions, poorly designed spaces, and collections that don't match the curriculum. We recommend starting the library conversation at the same time as the architect brief. The earlier we're involved, the better the outcome — and the lower the stress.
It's tight — but it's not too late. In a compressed timeline, we prioritise on your goals like getting you accreditation-ready or functional on Day 1, with a clear plan for what gets completed in Term 2 and beyond.
Book a call as soon as possible. The first thing we do is a rapid triage: what is critical for opening day, what can be phased, and what decisions need to be locked in this week. Even a partial engagement in the final stretch is far better than no expert guidance at all.
A full revamp of an existing library typically takes 3 to 8 months depending on the extent of structural changes, procurement lead times, and whether the library can remain operational during the transformation. Most schools prefer a phased approach so students and teachers are not disrupted for extended periods.
We begin with a thorough audit of your existing space and collection — this alone usually takes 2 to 3 weeks — and then build a renovation roadmap aligned with your school calendar, so disruption is minimal.
REMOTE WORK QUESTIONS
Yes — we work globally. Our completed projects span Malaysia, China, Bahrain, and India, and we actively serve schools across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
Most of our consulting work is delivered remotely — virtual needs assessments, video walkthroughs, shared design documents, and remote project management. For full design and setup engagements, we plan site visits at critical milestones (typically the space planning phase and installation phase) and schedule these into the project timeline and budget upfront. Distance has never been a barrier to delivering a world-class library.
We use a structured virtual assessment process developed across multiple international projects. This includes a detailed pre-assessment questionnaire, video walkthrough of the existing or proposed space, stakeholder interviews with the Head of School, curriculum coordinators, and (where applicable) existing library staff, and a review of your architectural plans and school documentation.
We've found that a thorough virtual assessment often surfaces insights that an in-person visit alone might miss — particularly around curriculum alignment and pedagogical goals — because it requires more structured communication from all stakeholders from the start.
Yes. We have established relationships with international furniture suppliers, book distributors, and technology vendors across Asia and the Middle East. We manage the specification, quotation, and coordination process on your behalf — remotely.
For installation, we either conduct a site visit at that stage or work closely with a local school contact who acts as our on-the-ground liaison. We provide detailed installation guides, furniture layout plans, and step-by-step checklists so nothing is left to chance.
ACCREDITATION QUESTIONS
The IB looks for evidence that the library is a genuine centre of inquiry and research — not just a room with books. Key requirements include: a qualified teacher-librarian or library professional, a curriculum-aligned collection that supports the Programme of Inquiry (PYP) or units of inquiry (MYP/DP), a documented information literacy programme taught collaboratively with subject teachers, adequate print and digital resources, and a library policy approved by school leadership.
We know what IB site visitors look for — and we build every element of your library with those standards in mind. Our accreditation readiness audit (part of the Advisory tier) maps your current state against IB requirements and identifies exactly what needs to be in place before your visit.
Yes. We have working knowledge of library requirements across IB, CIS, WASC, CAIE, NEASC and CBSE frameworks. Each accreditation body has different emphases — CIS, for example, places particular weight on the library's role in supporting the school's stated mission and on staff professional development, while WASC focuses heavily on evidence of student learning outcomes.
During the discovery call we'll confirm which accreditation(s) you're pursuing and build your library design and documentation accordingly.
Yes — and this is something we've done before. An upcoming accreditation visit with gaps still to close is exactly the kind of situation our Advisory tier is designed for. We move quickly: a rapid audit within the first week, a prioritised action list ranked by accreditation impact, and structured support to close the most critical gaps before your visit date.
Be honest with us about your timeline in the discovery call and we'll be honest about what's achievable. We won't promise miracles — but we will make sure your library presents as strongly as possible and that your documentation tells the right story to evaluators.
